Today, Ahmaud Arbery’s murderers were all convicted

After the tragic decision to acquit Kyle Rittenhouse last week, we now, for once, have some justice for Ahmaud Arbery, who was murdered by three white men while on his usual Sunday jog last February. This, however, is but a small victory in the struggle against the systemic racism BIPOC face in our country. It is at moments like these that we must remind ourselves that oppression is multidimensional and that veganism must be intersectional lest an incomplete justice be realized, should any justice be realized at all. Veganism is, first and foremost, a philosophy rooted in justice, and the full extent of the vegan mission cannot be realized until every last sentient being, human and otherwise, can live safe, happy, and free from needless harm, violence, suffering, death, and oppression. As animal advocates, we must therefore fight for a multidimensional, comprehensive social justice solution that champions the rights of all, no matter their sex, sexuality, skin color, site of origin, socioeconomic status, disability status, senescence, or species. Only then can we all have a chance of enjoying the riches of life, the promises of freedom, and the securities of justice.
